Frequently Asked Questions

What is dividend yield?

Dividend yield is a financial ratio that shows how much a company pays in dividends each year relative to its stock price. It is calculated as: Annual Dividend per Share ÷ Share Price × 100%. For example, if a stock trades at $100 and pays $4 per year in dividends, the yield is 4%.

How is annual dividend income calculated?

Annual dividend income is calculated by multiplying the annual dividend per share by the number of shares you own. For example, if you own 100 shares of a stock that pays $2.50 per share annually, your annual dividend income is $250.

What is yield on cost?

Yield on cost (YOC) is the annual dividend income divided by your original investment amount, expressed as a percentage. Unlike current yield, which uses the current share price, YOC uses your purchase price. As dividends grow over time, your YOC can become much higher than the current yield.

How does dividend growth projection work?

The dividend growth projection assumes the annual dividend per share grows at a constant rate each year. For example, with a 5% annual growth rate, a $2.00 dividend becomes $2.10 in year 2, $2.205 in year 3, and so on. This compounds over time, significantly increasing your passive income.
