What is the difference between gross margin and markup?

Gross margin is calculated as (Gross Profit / Revenue) × 100, showing what percentage of revenue is profit. Markup is calculated as (Gross Profit / COGS) × 100, showing how much was added to the cost. A 50% markup equals a 33.3% gross margin.
