This calculator provides a comprehensive analysis of basketball shooting efficiency using the most important advanced metrics. Effective Field Goal Percentage (eFG%) adjusts traditional FG% to account for the extra value of three-pointers. True Shooting Percentage (TS%) goes further by including free throws. Points Per Shot Attempt measures pure scoring efficiency. Free Throw Rate (FTR) shows how often a player gets to the line. Together, these metrics give a complete picture of a player's shooting prowess beyond simple percentages. All calculations happen in your browser with zero data sent to any server.
eFG% adjusts traditional field goal percentage to account for the fact that three-pointers are worth 1.5x more than two-pointers. Formula: (FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) / FGA. A player who shoots 4/10 from two-point range has the same eFG% (40%) as a player who shoots 2/10 from three-point range (also 40%), reflecting equal scoring efficiency.
The NBA league average TS% is approximately 56-57%. 60%+ is elite (think Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant), 57-59% is great, 54-56% is good, 51-53% is average, and below 50% is below average. High-volume scorers with 60%+ TS% are incredibly valuable.
Regular FG% treats all field goals equally, penalizing three-point shooters. A player who shoots 4/10 on three-pointers scores 12 points (40% FG%), while a player who shoots 5/10 on two-pointers scores 10 points (50% FG%). The three-point shooter is actually more efficient, but FG% makes them look worse. eFG% correctly shows both as 50% eFG%.
FTR = FTA / FGA. It measures how often a player gets to the free throw line relative to their field goal attempts. A high FTR (above 0.35) indicates a player who draws fouls and generates easy scoring opportunities. Elite foul-drawers like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid often have FTR above 0.50.
